Q: What is GDEWB! 2025?
A: The Gordon District Explorer Winter Blast is a weekend winter camp for Explorer Scouts, packed with outdoor activities, team challenges, great food, and new friendships — all held at Daviot Scout Campsite.
Q: When is the event happening?
A: The event runs from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd November 2025.
Q: Where is it being held?
A: We’re based at Daviot Scout Campsite, just outside Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.
Q: Is the event catered?
A: Yes! All meals from Friday evening to Sunday lunch are included.
Q: Will there be indoor accommodation?
A: No — this is a tented, outdoor winter experience. Come prepared for the elements!
Q: How do I register my unit?
A: Unit Leaders can register via our dedicated leaders portal. Once registered, they’ll receive a unique unit booking code to share with Explorers.
Q: How do participants register?
A: Participants register individually using the unit code given by their leader. The form will ask for consent, contact, and medical details.
Q: When do registrations open and close?
A: Registrations open late July 2025 and close on 26th October 2025.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The early bird participant fee is £55 which then increases to £60 from 24th August 2025 onwards, which includes all food, accommodation, and activities. Staff attend free of charge.
Q: Can non-Gordon District units attend?
A: At this time, the event is open to Gordon District Explorer Units & Scout Groups only.
Q: Can I volunteer as staff?
A: Yes! We’re always looking for enthusiastic Leaders and Network members to help deliver an amazing weekend.
Q: What roles are available?
A: Roles include First Aid, Catering, Activity Leaders, Logistics, Site Support, and more. You can express preferences during the staff sign-up process.
Q: Is there a cost for staff?
A: No — staff attend for free. You’ll also be fully catered.
Q: Do staff sleep indoors?
A: Most staff will be camping. Some indoor options may be available for those in key roles or with specific requests.
Q: Who can attend?
A: GDEWB! is open to Explorer Scouts aged 13.5–17 who are part of a registered Gordon District Unit / Section.
Q: What should I pack?
A: A full kit list will be provided closer to the event, but expect warm layers, waterproofs, sleeping gear, and a sense of adventure!
Q: Can I attend without my unit?
A: No — all participants must attend as part of a registered Explorer Unit or Scout Group, with at least one Leader attending.
Q: What happens if I have dietary needs or medical conditions?
A: These can be shared during registration. Our Catering and First Aid teams are experienced and will do their best to support everyone.
Q: What kind of food is provided?
A: We serve hearty, filling meals designed to keep you warm and energised — including options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Q: Will you cater for dietary requirements?
A: Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-aware options are available. Just let us know during registration.
Q: Can I help in the kitchen?
A: Absolutely! If you're a Leader or Networker interest in catering, we'd love your help. Sign up via the staff form.
Q: Do I need food hygiene training to help with catering?
A: It’s a bonus, but not required. We’ll make sure you’re briefed and supported.
